Fun or (f)eral?

It's that time of the season again, so they say, of funerals. Apparently, SAF personnel die around the time when SAF day and NDP preparations are coming up. Swine probably helps in the process.

So 28th April was funeral day and my first funeral that i was supposed to take part in. I thought it was at mandai but instead it ended up at bright hill with incense and tortoises abound. So it came to pass that busloads of airforce personnel came streaming in, many of whom didn't know who died and couldn't care less if there was one less 2WO or not.

The coffin carriers didn't iron their uniforms and everybody took it as a chore to be done rather than focus on respecting the deceased and assisting the family. I guess when all your plans are upset, it really seems a chore.

So the Dead March played on. And we filed out of the place soon after that leaving the bugler to do his job. The Last Post. And then it was done. We left.

We had COG rehearsal the next day and we did what we always did, played as we always played, went back to Nee Soon camp as we always have. We were the main band and I guess if you wanted to do COG, you would rather be the main band that marches down Orchard rather than support which play the same songs all the time.

Thursday was free time and in the afternoon we had the chance to go to the treetop walk (my sergeant major's brainchild). It was supposed to be a half day thing but it turned out we still went home at about 5, so not much of a difference. But just being outside and discovering a trail that i've never gone before despite running round macritchie all the time is refreshing. What's more? It was during office hours.

Sunday's COG came and went and as usual, never expected to see anybody i know and so ididn't see anybody. Screwed up a piece's counter melody as did the euphoniums, so the counter melody was destroyed. heh. oh well, what do you expect from NSFs burning their sundays:P

The following week wasn't very eventful and only events that come along are SAF Day rehearsals. Soon there'll be NDP rehearsals and poof weekends gone. And university interviews are coming up so it'll be stressful yet it allows me to be out of camp which reduces stress. So will I be stressed or not? I'll know next week.

I've less than 400 days in the army left and I haven't really met anybody yet. Before I leave Singapore, I want catch up with some people so I really do hope I get the chance. 400 days is a long time but isn't that long too. See you around then
